Into new waters

Into new waters

I sat in my tiny little room, gazing down at the floor and my twin brother sat on the bed opposite to mine. Today was a day I had longed for in my life, and also a day I  feared the most. I was filled with mixed emotions. Though this was what I had dreamed for in my life, now I really don't want to go. I don't want to miss and lose my dear brother, whom I've known for all these eight years of my short life.

As long as I can remember, I have been with my brother within the walls of this orphanage, and under the guidance of Mother Elizabeth - a nun who was in charge of this parish orphanage. During this brief life of eight years, my brother Tom is the only blood relation I had, and the only family member I knew. We attended the school run by our church, which was within the same premises of our orphanage. Mother Elizabeth is like a mother to us, and she has taken good care of us and has given us lot of love and hope. All our friends (fellow inmates in our orphanage) have always been very affectionate and friendly with us. Many a times we had asked mother Elizabeth, why our biological parents had abandoned us, but she had always tried to brush us off, and has given us hope that we'll soon get new parents and would be put up in a foster home. For us, we feel that parents are a blessing, and those who have a good family, affectionate and caring parents, are really blessed by the Almighty.

Many kids in the orphanage had been adopted, and a new foster home with an affectionate father and a caring mother was a dream which we have always longed to be fulfilled. When many of our friends were adopted by families, we too had great hopes for the day in which we too can be part of a family.

Finally the day I longed for came. But to my greatest shock & horror, the family can adopt only one child, and I have to leave my twin brother back here in this orphanage !!!

Though mother Elizabeth, and my "new mom" have assured me that I can meet my brother once in every two weeks, and also whenever I feel like meeting him, but still I have a deep pain in my heart for having to miss him. I fear I may lose him completely. If my new foster family shift to some other city, or after my adoption, if my brother is also adopted by another family which takes him away to a different place then I lose contact with him completely. I may even lose him completely!!!

I kept on staring at the floor. Today was the day I'll be adopted to my new family, and now I really don't wanna go. My brother had assured me several times that it's perfectly fine, and for good that I had been chosen by the family, and must move on to my new life without looking back, or thinking of him. He seems to be stronger & more optimistic than I, and has given me lot of hope. In life we can never gain anything without losing something. But still my heart is heavy, and very much pained as I have to part ways with my dear brother.

Suddenly, I heard an abrupt knock on the door and a chill went up my spine. My heart sank, and I looked up in horror. My brother gave a short grin. I gently got up from my bed and walked towards the door, and with trembling hands turned the door knob. It was mother Elizabeth. She extended her hands towards me and said with a smile "Come on honey. They have come and are waiting for you down in my office room".

I turned around, with eyes swelling with tears, and when I saw the smile on my brother's face as he sat on the bed swaying his legs, tears started rolling down my cheeks. I felt like running towards him and hug him, and cry together, but he smiled and waved his hand, and gestured me to go forward. I turned towards mother and as I walked out of my room, holding mother's hands, I heard the door shut behind me with a loud thud, and I felt as if my whole world was shut off from me. I walked gently ahead holding mother's soft hands, with tears rolling down my cheeks, and crying out loudly within my heart, but at the same time trying to put up a smile as I have to greet my new family.

I walked along the corridor of the building towards a new life, an unknown destiny, with hopes & dreams and also with pain & regrets, into new waters.

Super Blue Blood Moon: Jan-31-2018

Super Blue Blood Moon

A rarest of the rare celestial spectacle - an unusual Lunar eclipse took place on the evening of Jan-31st , which was a combination of Super moon, Blue moon, and Blood moon (due to Lunar eclipse).

That evening I was lucky enough to witness this spectacular event but it was visible to me only from the blood moon phase only. I couldn’t witness the full moon drifting into the shadow of Earth and then finally becoming the blood moon.

Below is a brief account of the spectacle in my own words :

I reached home early that evening of Jan-31st, and was up in the terrace of my house to witness this spectacle from 6:20PM onwards. The proposed time in Trivandrum was from 6:17PM onwards. But unfortunately there was no trace of moon anywhere in the evening sky or anywhere as far as the eastern horizon which I could see from the housetop.

Much later, after 7:00PM (after nightfall), towards the horizon, I spotted a pale red coloured moon 'fading in' into the night sky. It was pale blood red colour, and it's one half was almost dark. The eclipse had started, and the moon was blinded by the shadow of Earth, and as it emerged from the shadow it was blood red in colour. I started viewing it from the blood moon phase onwards.

When I caught a glimpse of this celestial extravaganza, it started as a dull red blood coloured moon which was camouflaged against the grey night sky, with most of the moon in dark grey and a pink tinge colour and also with a reddish area at the bottom right of the sphere. The moon was just drifting out of the dark shadow of the Earth and forming a full dark blood red sphere and slowly the blood red colour started diffusing into bright orange colour. It stood as a dull reddish orange sphere and slightly the bottom border of the sphere started becoming brighter with the bottom right hemispherical surface outlined brightly in the night sky.

Then like a diamond on a diamond ring, a small speck of the moon appeared in the middle of the bright outline, and it started becoming brighter. By this time the entire colour of the moon faded from dull blood red into bright orange. The "bright speck" on moon started growing, and it began spreading slowly over the surface, with more and more brightened surface appearing. The colour changed further from orange into bright yellow and then into milky white as it advanced. More & more moon surface was revealed with the grey area decreasing rapidly as it progressed. As it progressed from quarter moon to half-moon, the yellowish colour had changed completely into milky white. Beyond half-moon it looked like a round scoop of dark chocolate placed on a round white cup, and the dark chocolate decreased as it progressed - (as if the night sky was sucking the chocolate off the bright white round cup). Finally as most of the moon was revealed, it looked like a ball ice-cream with the dark lid at the top. Finally, the entire grey at the top was sucked into the night sky, and the full moon shone brightly in full splendour.

It was an amazing and rare spectacle and it was the very first time in my life, I was observing a lunar eclipse.

Here is a video from you-tube on this rare celestial phenomena:

The white horse is waiting

The white horse is waiting

The white horse is waiting,
Awaiting its master,
Who comes with HIS fiery sickle,
A flaming sickle to reap HIS field,
When it is harvest time.

The master awaits,
Awaits with a heavy heart,
Seeing the pain and agony of HIS beloved ones,
And the misery and chaos out there,
But HE can only, but await,
Wait for the harvest to come,
To reap HIS field, when the time is apt.

The master is waiting,
Awaiting for the last drop to drain out,
The last drop of goodness, the last drop of hope,
The last drop of love, the last drop of faith,
Harvest will it be when the last one dies,
The last who is righteous, the last who is faithful,
And the world is plunged into the realm of darkness,
Then will the time be ripe for harvest.

And lo the harvest comes finally,
Before anyone could realize,
And when no one anticipates,
With deafening roars of thunder,
And dazzling streaks of lightning,
HE cracks open the sky and comes forth,
Mounted on HIS white horse,
With a flaming sword in HIS hand,
Galloping across the sky,
For the world is ripe for harvest.

The world in chaos, the world in darkness,
The world in misery, the world in sin,
Sees the light that has dawned,
A new ray of hope, a new ray of life,
A mighty hand that crushes down,
An affectionate hand that cuddles.

HE sets HIS foot on the ground,
And the world trembles in fear and joy,
Every tongue confesses HIS name,
And everyone will mourn,
HE reaps HIS field with HIS sickle,
And divides the grains from the chaff,
The grains HE collects to store in HIS barn,
While the chaff HE binds and throws into the fire.

HE goes in search of HIS sheep,
Calls each one of his flock by name,
And none shall go astray, and none shall be lost,
For HE is the true deliverer, the true shepherd of HIS sheep.

HE parts the sheep from the goats,
And guides HIS sheep to HIS flock,
HE is the true shepherd and master,
The deliverer and redeemer,
The saviour of HIS beloved sheep.

HIS sheep hears HIS call,
And runs to HIM,
Like a child running to his mother,
And HE lifts HIS sheep in HIS arms, with hugs and kisses.

HE sees not the blemishes of HIS sheep,
For those are HIS loved ones,
Purified and sanctified by HIS blood,
Their names are inscribed in HIS palms,
And also in HIS heart,
HE guides HIS sheep to its abode,
Like a mother carrying her child to a cradle.

And then HE goes out in search of the wolf,
The treacherous one, the most ferocious,
HE hunts down the wolf, and binds it up,
To be cast into the pit of fire.

A green grass meadow afar off,
A spring of cool water that runs deep,
Trees in full bloom, and blossoms everywhere,
A paradise lay afar off,
HE guides HIS flock to paradise,
To dwell with his loved ones,
Where sun never sets, and time never flows,
Where each moment lasts forever.

The rest is gone deep into the pit,
Into the fathoms of the furnace,
Burning and charring constantly,
Wailing and mourning forever,
With pain and sorrow, agony and misery,
Burning down in the deep furnace.

A new sunshine, a new fountain,
A new meadow, a new mountain,
With new hopes, and a new destiny,
Life moves on in paradise.
