                             Offroadz - 2K13 : 

On February 23^rd & 24^th 2013, the lush green Bethany hills in the outskirts of Trivandrum city bore an unusually magnificent look. People were swarming in, to get a glimpse of the wide and vivid collection of unique and exotic cars and bikes that were on display as part of the mega event  ‘Offroadz- 2K13’ conducted by third year Mechanical engineering students of Mar Baselios Engineering college. It was a memorable experience for each and every one who attended the event, which displayed an array of man’s most desired machinery  and showed man’s unique tryst and fondness for it. 

Mar Baselios Engineering college founded in the year 2002 is nestled atop the Bethany Hills in Trivandrum, where the most prestigious and reputed educational institutions like Mar Ivanios college, Sarvodaya Vidyalaya, and Mar Theophilus training college are also located.

The event Offroadz was hosted at the Mar Ivanios college ground on the 23^rd & 24^th of Feb-2013. As part of promotion of the event -Offroadz, the students conducted a cycle rally with the motto “ go green”.

Offroadz was welcomed whole heartedy by the college students and the guests alike. The event put  forth a splendid collection of various kinds of cars and bikes which included various luxury cars, Vintage cars, Bikes and vintage scooters & bikes. The main luxury cars were- Audi R8, Mini Cooper, Jaguar XF, SLS Amg, Cadillac Limousine, Range rover, BMW 5 series, Fiat 500, SAN Storm and Rollce Royce Ghost. The bikes which the teenagers looked with awe & admiration were were Kawasaki Ninja, Yamaha R1, Yamaha R6 and Hyosung 250R. The vintage cars on display that brought forth some nostalgia to many were Catram, Plymouth, VW Beatle, Old Benz. The Vintage Bikes & Scooters comprised of Royal Enfield, Yezdi, Lamby, Priya, Rajdhoot  & RX 100. To add to the glamour & frenzy there were some ‘altered vehicles’ which showcased the creativity of young budding mechanical engineers.

Another attraction of the event was ‘Armory Expo’ conducted by Indian Army. The was a display of several modern weapons by Army personnels in the college ground. The weapons included various ultra modern rifles & a grenade launcher.

The way the students arranged it is remarkable and worth laud of appreciations.  There was also a competition conducted for the best altered car, the best vintage car, the car with the best stereo system etc.

On the closing day, there was a parade conducted by the army at around 5:30PM which was attended by a huge crowd which comprised of students and their families.

Man’s liking for automobiles has been ever since the beginning of time. Right from the days of chariots and wagons to present day of automobiles, man’s fondness for vehicles and the quest for better inventions and improvisation is always on the go.  Offroadz lived upto its heights of expectations. It captured everyone’s attention as it could bring forth what was expected of the event as well as it showcased man’s unique tryst and liking for automobiles.

Offroadz-2K14  which is about to kick off on March 1^st 2014 on Mar Ivanios College ground will surely rejuvenate us once again and will definitely leave us enthralled and spellbound as it did the previous year… !!!
